Home Staging Fees

Question: Should i buy a house or apartment/townhouse?

I currently reside in Detroit and am looking to move out into my own place. I can easily get a decent sized home for myself at a cheap price, but my credit is in the rebuilding stages (currently @ 610), so I'm expecting skyrocketing interest rates and fees. On the other hand, I can get a decent townhouse in Midtown for around $550/mo + heat/electricity. I'm indifferent about the job security as I have been laid off before due to budget cuts and fear if it happens again, I'll be SOL for lack of a better term.

I'm giving myself a move-in date of September 1st of this year.

Any suggestions? Serious replies please.

Answer: The Detroit area is a complete mess right now for housing. The job losses and other economics issues have devastated the housing market. It probably isn't done going down.

On the other hand, a real, breathing buyer will be very attractive to people! You should be able to get a great deal right now.

I personally prefer single family houses for the privacy and control, but getting a decent townhouse for $550 a month is pretty good.

If you are single and don't have a family to worry about, try setting your move in date a few months later. Many families try to get settled by Sept 1 because of the school year. Traditionally the real estate market softens after that point (and the anticipation of winter). You will get better service and more attractive deals then.

good luck!
