Question: Do you feel as strongly about other aspects of your life as you do your belief in god?
Sorry, my gentle ones, this is not a question.
Tonight, as usual, I watched on the idiot box the Tony Awards, the American Theatre Wing's annual awards to theatre artists. I will not make too big a thing of it, but, as a professional actor for 54 years I am so intensely moved by these over-produced awards presentations that I admit I must stop meself every so often or I will mist up. Once, I was a young actor on the New York stage, and the sweet earnestness of the winners brought home such golden memories of American theatre in the 'fifties. I am a nonbeliever in gods and all that, of course, and I am, it amuses me to think, a man of the 21st century and not the Bronze Age when the Christian god came to life among murdering desert nomads. But I guess the theatre is my church, my heaven, my religion. And, feeling that way, I do understand the passion which believers exhibit.
Answer: As this is not a question, I will not give an answer. I, too, will just share. I certainly haven't been acting as long as you. (25 yrs for me) And unlike you, I am a Christian and find I am moved most praying and worshipping God.
Next, I am moved and touched beyond words when holding my children. Especially as I realise how fleeting the moments are as they grow.
But I cry when I see a play at every curtain call. When I see a musical, (& the orchestra is good, or better,) I am moved to tears within the first notes of the overature. And children's theatre, when done well, moves me to tears. They have such unbridled passion stemming from a precious, naive zest for life! It fits beautifully with theatre.
