Question: Can anyone tell us about some real estate?
My Bf and his cousin have a trailer and 10 acres of land She is an MS quadriplegic and is legally blind She just recently was placed into a nursing home due to the end stages of her MS Her kids have told us that we can have the house and property due to the fact My Bf was her caretaker for the last 20 yrs.....The kids are saying that the house is his for taking care of her all these yrs But we are concerned about this as her kids have lied to us on alot of things CAN THEY come back and take over the house or can the nursing home step in and want the property for her care as she is on Medicaid no other ins....His name was first on the property along with hers..
We cant hire an attorney Because we are on a fixed income...If anyone can answer our questions or tell us whom to check with We would appreciate it...We live in Michigan....
Answer: this is very easy; get a copy of her deed. Get a statement from the
recipients of the estate [the kids likely] that they want you to get the
house.
See if her deed can be changed NOW to a life estate for her with
you as the "remainderman." Then when she passes, it is your
home debt free, sans taxes.
IF the kids are not the heirs, you need this agreement form whomever
is.
